When I signed up to take digital photography, I was genuinely interested in learning how to take brilliant photos. My family loves to travel, and my dad and I both agreed that the extra knowledge would take some really amazing pictures that really captured the memory of the event.
I remember the first day I walked into this class. I saw a lot of people who were my friends, and a lot of computers. I just remember when we went outside to take some practice photos. I remember it being rather difficult to find out a good place to take a good photo, and to find out how to make sure the camera took a high quality. I learned in that moment that I needed some dire help with my photo-taking, and I was really ready for the picture-taking to start.
When we learned about the different types of cameras, and the different settings that could able you to take different kinds of photos. I'd used my camera before, but I honestly had no idea that all of these settings could affect your photo. I'd always used the 'Auto' mode on the camera, but as soon as I learned about aperture, shutter speed and ISO, I realized that there was a lot you could play with on the camera to get different sorts of photos.
For my first shooting assignment, I decided to take pictures of animals because my family was fostering 5 kittens at the time and I had two cats and a dog, who I loved taking pictures of in general. I was extremely happy with the outcome, and honestly, think that it was the better of my 6 photoshoots, which is rather surprising because it was the first. My second was a little worse, and as the trimester progressed, I realized that I was running out of some options to take pictures of. I'm still extremely happy with the way all 6 of my shooting assignments turned out, however.
As well as animals, I also shot nature, portrait, food, light painting and an open assignment which I decided to use to take sun and moon pictures. Here are the 6 best photos from the 6 weeks of shooting:

Here are some examples of my best work:
I like these images because the resolution is really great. I think that they're both very sharp and show great examples of depth of field. I also think the one of the fruit adds great vibrance and color and the one of the kitten was really well composed, as far as background space goes.

Below is my open photoshop photo and an example of a panoramic photo I took: I really dislike these photos for two reasons. The first one is taken at an odd angle. The composition aspect isn't really there, and it's also pretty blurry. The cat's cute, but this photo doesn't do her justice, in a way. The second photo I think is one of my worst because the exposure is way too high. Also, its rather blurry and grainy, but that might be attributed to the fact that this is far too highly exposed.
The next thing we learned in class was how to use Adobe programs like Bridge and Photoshop. I felt immediately comfortable with Bridge, and thought that it was a positively genius way to upload, store, and organize digital photos. When we first used Photoshop, however, I felt immediately overwhelmed. Our first assignment was very clearly laid out for us, and told us exactly what we had to. The second however, was a bit more of a trial-and-error type of assignment. Once I got the hang of it, though, I felt great about it. As we were cruising along with the trimester, I felt better and better about the assignments. My favorite assignment was the open tutorials assignment because we got to choose exactly what we wanted to do, and I think it let everyone learn a lot more than they would have if everyone had done the same. My least favorite photoshop assignment was the panoramic assignment because even though Photoshop did most of the work for you, the editing was very finicky and it proved to be rather challenging to make them look like true panoramas.

Here is an example of my photoshop skills and how they've advanced throughout the trimester:
That small blue glare in the first photo was removed in Photoshop by using the clone stamp tool. The first photo is underexposed and lacking some vibrance, and with a little bit of work in the Camera Raw Filter and Levels settings, the photo became so much better than before.
Throughout this trimester, I've learned more than I thought I possibly could have. I've learned so much about how a camera works and how photo programs like Bridge and Photoshop work. I really enjoyed working in the photography environment this trimester, and wish I could do more! I will take what I've learned this trimester with me forever, and now I know that if all else fails, I can become a photographer! I also know that on family vacations, I will know how to adjust the camera's settings to take the perfect photo for the place.
I really appreciate the opportunity to have taken this class and learned so much.
